Why we don't use proprietary blends in Ignite Pre Workout
For us, transparency is king. This is why we haven’t used a proprietary blend in our pre-workout. A proprietary blend is a manufacturer's way of NOT telling you exactly what quantities of what key ingredients are in the products. So for the label readers out there when you see a proprietary blend it will list all the best ingredients so you think great, this is going to give me the best pump of my life. Wrong. What they don’t show is what doses of these ingredients are in the product. You see, for pre-workouts to deliver quantifiable results they need to be stacked with efficacious doses of research-driven ingredients. Ignite is not built on a proprietary blend. It contains all of the most widely researched ingredients at effective doses to give you that ICON edge over your competition.
To show our customers that we have nothing to hide we offer full label disclosure. Every gram of every ingredient is easily displayed. With Ignite we are only offering the right ingredients at the right clinical doses. No smoke and mirrors.
You never see pre-workouts with tons of vitamins and minerals in, why do you use so many in your Ignite formula? Minerals such as magnesium, calcium, sodium, and potassium serve as electrolytes which help the human body support proper muscle function and hydration and we use the finest B12 and B6 vitamins to ensure proper absorption. It is these b-vitamins which are paramount in energy metabolism and synthesis of new red blood cells that carry oxygen to your muscles. Further, these b-vitamins also help repair damaged cells to bolster recovery. Ask yourself this: do you want to be the best athlete you can be? If yes then don’t sell yourself short with pre-workouts that don’t offer essential vitamins and minerals to ensure proper electrolyte balance. Why we decided not to use a “concentrated” formula like you see in other brands: For reasons in addition to the ones mentioned, at ICON Nutrition we think it is best to give our customers the most effective doses of essential muscle pumping, shirt ripping, and PB smashing ingredients that will provide our customers with the best workouts possible. We want to ensure users of Ignite increase their performance and strength, as well as their lean muscle mass whilst also enhancing fat burning. We have derived our ingredients and doses based on clinically backed research. We haven’t plucked these numbers out of the air. They have been carefully selected, checked, re-checked, and checked again to ensure that what we have put in and packaged as Ignite, really is the best product we can make. And to do this we had to move away from the popular concentrated formula which largely consist of stimulants with underdosed essential ingredients such as Beta Alanine, Citruline Malate, Creatine and Leucine. ICON Nutrition is driven by a team mentality. And when you have this team ethos the one thing you cannot do is let the team down by selling customers a inferior product.
Benefits of Key Ingredients in Ignite Pre Workout
Beta Alanine: 1,800mg
Beta Alanine is backed by research to show that it is a primary mechanism to increase athletic performance.(1) Beta alanine improves muscle endurance and power(2), and has been shown to aid increase in lean and mass muscle tissue.(3) Also the use of beta alanine has been shown to delay the onset of neuromuscular fatigue and the ventilatory threshold, that is the point in which lactic acid begins to kick in.(4) Beta alanine appears to act in a buffering capacity stemming from its ability to elevate muscle carnosine concentrations.(5) Above all, with the help of beta alanine instead of hitting 6 or 7 reps you’ll be smashing out 9 or 10.
Citrulline Malate: 1,800mg
Citrulline Malate is an essential pre-workout ingredient and it should fit into everyone’s pre-game routine. It has been clinically researched to enhance N.O. (Nitric Oxide) levels above arginine(6); increase muscle protein synthesis; buffer fatigue; enhance muscle endurance and increase the body’s ability to produce more energy.(7,8,9) Ignite features only clinically effective doses of citrulline malate so you know that each serving you are getting all the benefits of this unbelievable pre-workout ingredient.
Leucine: 2,000mg
Leucine is a bad @ss ingredient and we only use gram doses of this anabolic amino acid. Leucine has been shown to stimulate muscle protein synthesis (i.e. the muscle growth process). A study published recently further highlighted the importance of gram doses of leucine supplementation. The study found that 13 untrained men supplementing with leucine saw significantly higher gains (40.8%) in strength performance during a 12 week training program.(10) We are proud to be able to tell you that Ignite features the same gram doses of Leucine used in this clinical study.
Caffeine: 200mg
Caffeine has an amazing ability to increase the mind muscle connection, provide razor sharp focus, boosts aerobic performance, reduce fatigue and even aid in weight loss through thermogenesis and fat oxidation.(11,12) A study published in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research in 2011 looked at 13 moderately trained males and the effect of caffeine supplementation on bench press performance to failure. The research concluded that participants supplementing with caffeine completed significantly more repetitions to failure and lifted considerably more weight.(13) Another study published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism (IJSNEM) found that caffeine supplementation allowed 18 male athletes to increase their total weight with the chest press, and achieved greater peak power during the Wingate test, an anaerobic test used to measure peak anaerobic power, as well as anaerobic capacity.(14)
Creatine monohydrate / Creatine Gluconate: 2,700mg
Creatine provides max performance to athletes every time. It is one of the most researched driven sports nutrition supplements to exist. Countless studies have shown that creatine significantly increases lean muscle mass and strength gains and it does so safely.(15,16) A study done by the Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise journal looked at the effects of creatine on isometric bench-press performance. The double blind study concluded that for five days of creatine supplementation the resistance trained men increased body weight and fat-free body mass. The study also showed that the responders compared with the placebo group saw significantly greater peak force and total force during a repeated maximal isometric bench-press test.(17) Ignite contains both creatine monohydrate and creatine gluconate for rapid absorption! Niacin: 28mg
Niacin (or vitamin B3) is an essential B vitamin that can cause the user to experience a flushing effect characterized by a tingling sensation on the surface of the skin 10-25 minutes after consumption. Niacin facilities other b vitamins in metabolizing fats and converting carbohydrates into glucose to provide fuel for the body. Niacin has many other benefits including lowering cholesterol levels and the production of adrenal hormones (19, 20).
Taurine: 1,800mg
Studies have shown that Taurine may increase muscle endurance by up to 50%. Its ability to buffer lactic acid in the muscle means greater intense bouts of exercise (21). Further by supplementing with taurine, subjects in a separate study were able to perform more reps on the bench press over the placebo group. Not only does taurine enhance muscular endurance but it has also been shown to help with fat burning. A study published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism carried out by the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences found that well-trained cyclists that ingested just 1,660mgs of taurine had a “significant” 16% increase in fat oxidation during submaximal cycling. (22).
